On wide-area systems, the voice or data sent to the base station from the radios must be sent to other base stations. To perform this, a connection must be established and a communication must also take place between base stations. In all systems established by Aselsan, communication between base stations is performed by the Software Switching System "Softswitch". In other words, all the units in the system and all voice / data traffic is managed by this software. Switching within the system is made by a softswitch that provides connectivity to other RF subsystems, systems, and networks. The Softswitch System consists of a software switching unit and other auxiliary peripherals.
Depending on such criteria as the number of users in the system or frequency of use, the hardware that this software will work with may vary. For larger systems, it is advisable to use the server, while desktop / laptop computers can be used for smaller systems. It is less costly than previously used central solutions. It is also possible to back up this unit for critical systems.
